Description | Alex Foster was an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office for almost 20 years. During that time, he handled thousands of District Court misdemeanor cases, Juvenile Court matters, traffic court matters (including hundreds of DUIs) and many high-profile Circuit Court jury trials. His interest in Entertainment Law and protecting the rights of performing artists led him to Emory University School of Law in Atlanta where he had planned to pursue a career in the field of Sports and Entertainment Law. However, he soon found that his theatre training and legal skills led to success in moot court and mock trial competitions where he won many awards and finished first out of 300 participants in the intraschool Law School competition. He was also named the Best Orator and won the Best Brief award for his writing skills. He was named to the National Moot Court team where he represented his law school against other top law schools on a national level. He also finished first in his class in Sports and Entertainment Law. However, it was his exposure to litigation inside the criminal courtroom as a student prosecutor which changed his career path and upon graduation he accepted a position with The Department of Justice in Wilmington, Delaware. The next year, he accepted a position as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office in Rockville, Maryland. For nearly 20 years, Alex Foster rose through the ranks as a Montgomery County prosecutor, rising to the position of Senior Assistant State’s Attorney and Gaithersburg Felony Trial Team Leader where he supervised a team of prosecutors handling serious Circuit Court felony cases. Before then, he also served as a District Court prosecutor where he tried hundreds of misdemeanor trials, including extensive experience in both traffic court and Juvenile Court. He also held the positions of Director of Professional Development where he created, organized and presented training programs for all new Circuit Court attorneys. He was also on the Executive Committee of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, a position reserved for the Office’s top prosecutors and management. Alex Foster has also enjoyed significant success as a faculty member teaching criminal law and trial advocacy related courses throughout the United States. He was a Faculty Member for the American Prosecutor’s Research Institute’s ‘Child Proof’ program, an advanced trial advocacy course for child abuse prosecutors. He taught ‘Child Proof’ 7 times at the National District Attorneys Advocacy Center in Columbia, SC and in various other locations including, Albuquerque, NM, and Boise, ID. Alex Foster was also asked to give a presentation to the National Conference on Shaken Baby Syndrome in Salt Lake City, UT, on ‘Successful Prosecution of Child Homicides.’ He has given demonstration Opening Statements and Closing Arguments to many law groups using his special skills and knowledge of forensic oratory and theatre techniques. He was the founder of a private company designed to teach courtroom advocacy skills called ‘The Lawyers’ Theatre Workshop’ and made presentations to various law firms and law schools on this topic. He has taught at George Mason School of Law, George Washington School of Law, The University of Maryland School of Law, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association, the Montgomery County Police Department (more than 20 times) and the National Youth Leadership Forum (more than 20 times) and, in addition, he has been a guest lecturer and presenter at many other programs. Alex Foster now brings his unique background to the profession of defending individuals charged with committing criminal offenses. His special experience and background have prepared him to offer a vigorous defense and to insure a fair process for those needing assistance in any criminal matter. |
