Description | Matthew Amster is an associate at the firm. He graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in May 2005. Matthew is a member of the Environmental and Land Use Law and the City, County and Local Government Law Sections of the Florida Bar and the Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources of the American Bar Association. During law school, Matthew obtained valuable legal experience working as a law clerk at the United States District Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida in the Environmental Crimes Division. He also clerked in maritime law at Underwood, Karcher & Karcher, P.A., and assisted the legal affairs division of Everglades National Park. Matthew joined Bercow & Radell, P.A. as a summer associate in 2004 and has remained with the firm ever since. In law school, Matthew was a member of the Moot Court Board, Treasurer of the Bar and Gavel Society, President of the Environmental Law Society and a member of PAD and the Cardozo Legal Society. He received two Dean’s Certificates of Achievement, one in Administrative Law and one in Environmental Legal Research. Prior to his law career, Matthew attended Cornell University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, graduating with distinction in all subjects in December 1995. He experimented with your future Kodak moments in the color negative film research laboratory at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. Matthew then pursued an opportunity at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products in Skillman, New Jersey, to become a Research Scientist. Matthew formulated and brought several new wound care products to market, including the Antibiotic Band-Aid. Matthew relocated to Miami in 1998 and switched gears to environmental work. He was a field inspector and code enforcement officer at Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM). He protected the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Miami-Dade County by enforcing County, State and Federal environmental regulations. He conducted inspections of permitted facilities and responded to all manner of environmental complaints. While employed at DERM, Matthew was also certified as a State Visual Emissions Inspector. Matthew’s close ties with environmental enforcement propelled him to law school. Matthew is an avid long distance runner who has completed four marathons, numerous half marathons and other shorter distance runs. In addition, he enjoys trail running and orienteering competitions. Matthew continues to demonstrate his commitment to the needs of our fragile ecosystem through local events, such as Biscayne Bay cleanups, and nationally through his support of environmental causes. |
