He subsequently graduated with honors from the University of Florida, College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree, in 1996. Mr. Butts specializes in construction law for which he is Board Certified and is considered an expert. Board certification requires extensive continuing legal education in construction law, an in-depth peer review, and the passing of a rigorous written examination. Mr. Butts is also a Certified General Contractor. His construction experience is diverse, including commercial, multi-family and residential construction as well as development projects. Mr. Butts’ understanding of the construction industry both as a practitioner and as a legal expert, as well as his business and accounting background, allow him to represent his clients from a diverse and unique perspective. A more specific description of Mr. Butts’s practice areas include: drafting, reviewing and litigating contracts; forming corporations, limited liability companies, and joint ventures; drafting operating agreements, partnership agreements, and shareholders’ agreements; handling real estate closings, construction liens and disputes; construction bond claims; delay claims; bid protests; contractor licensing disputes; property development and land use; as well as the representation of clients who are injured. Mr. Butts is an experienced trial attorney who has represented clients in arbitrations, county court, circuit court, federal court, district courts of appeal, as well as before the Florida Supreme Court.
