Umme Kulsoom graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Justice Systems from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. While at Truman State, she was a columnist and then an editor for the school newspaper, the Truman State University Index. While completing her undergraduate studies, she was a Legislative Intern at the Missouri House of Representatives in Jefferson City, Missouri. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Penn State Law in University Park, Pennsylvania. At Penn State, she earned the Penn State Pro Bono Publico Service Award, an award given to students who have performed at least sixty hours of public interest work over the course of their law school careers.Umme Kulsoom has an impressive legal background, having successfully completed internships with different firms and organizations. She has worked for Voices for Children in St. Louis, a non-profit organization that advocates for children in the foster care program. While there, she worked alongside medical professionals, social workers, and teachers to make sure the legal needs of the children were being met. She attended family support team meetings and wrote, edited, and submitted regular reports to the courts regarding the welfare of the children. Umme Kulsoom has also worked as an intern at a reputable firm where she focused on immigration law. It was there she familiarized herself with family-based immigration forms and researched changes in immigration policy. She also assisted clients by drafting their immigration applications. At the same firm she later transitioned to focusing on family law, and counseled clients in regards to divorce, marriage settlement, and harassment from estranged partners. She represented clients in Protection from Abuse hearings and negotiated settlements for her clients.
