Description | Zachary Murdock is a partner in and co-chairs the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, and is a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Murdock’s practice is wide ranging, emphasizing commercial and complex litigation, and land use and environmental cases. Mr. Murdock has served as litigation counsel in some of the region’s most significant land use disputes including, with Hon. Leon D. Lazer, the successful Pine Barrens appeal, and representing plaintiffs in two town taxpayer statutory actions and upon successful appeals addressing uses of major properties in Southampton, New York. Other notable matters include successfully representing an electric power authority in federal district court and appellate First Amendment litigation concerning creation of an eruv, obtaining an appellate reversal in an estate litigation increasing the net estate assets by more than $930,000, prevailing in a complex computer software arbitration resulting in a multi-million dollar award for the client, obtaining vacatur of a stop work order concerning a railroad transload facility and the dismissal of the subsequent appeal, and successfully representing George Harrison’s former business partner in a mortgage foreclosure surplus money proceeding involving claimants including the Harrison estate. Mr. Murdock is a graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook (B.A., 1975), and Fordham Law School (J.D., 1984) where he was research assistant for Prof. Michael Martin’s Evidence Column in the New York Law Journal. He is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Mr. Murdock has an AV Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating and has been selected for inclusion on the Super Lawyers New York – Metro Edition List (Business Litigation) for 2013 through 2020. He has served as a finals judge at the annual Long Island High School Ethics Bowl for ten consecutive years. He is an operatic tenor soloist, a multi-instrumentalist, and a recorded songwriter (ASCAP).
