| Description | Practicing family law is a second career for me. For many years, I worked in the financial services industry either in a customer service capacity or as a training specialist. It was while working in those fields that I realized how much I enjoyed educating people and helping them to resolve problems. Upon this realization, and after many lengthy discussions with family and close friends, in 2000 I decided to change careers. I returned to school to study the field of law. Upon graduation in 2003, I began my career working with Legal Aid of North Carolina in Winston-Salem. Although I touched upon family law issues, at that time my main focus was landlord/tenant and consumer cases. It was not until February of 2005 that I embarked on the practice of family law. I absolutely love every aspect of this area of law. It is rewarding to me because not only do I get the privilege of assisting you in resolving matters of such importance, I also work hard to educate and empower you to make decisions. For some of you it may be the first time you understood you had the power to make real change that is impactful for both yourself and your family. This is the best part of what I do every day. Although I am always prepared to litigate cases, I believe most cases can and should be resolved outside of a courtroom, and I work closely with all of my clients to understand available options outside of a court, and those options may be the best solution for their family. Zealous advocacy comes in many forms but what is most rewarding to me is to empower you in such a way that the result is reasonable and allows you to move on to the next chapter of your life. Decisions about separation, divorce, or child custody are extremely difficult but I will assist you through each step so that you understand and make informed decisions for you and your family.
