DescriptionBorn in Westmore, Vermont, Don Marchand spent his youth in Hartford and Norwich, CT, graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 1951. After attending Holy Cross College, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Accounting in 1955 and then went to Harvard Law School, where he received an L.L.B. in 1958. Following graduation, Mr. Marchand worked briefly as a civilian in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C. Called to active duty in July, 1958, Mr. Marchand served nearly five years as an Officer of the Judge Advocate General Corps in the U.S. Air Force, in Madison, Wisconsin and Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1963, he joined Parker, Badger and Fisher in Greenwich and remained with the firm until July, 1990, when he came to Ivey, Barnum & O’Mara. He was awarded a Master of Laws in Taxation by New York University in 1967. Mr. Marchand works primarily in the areas of taxation, real estate, estate planning, and trusts and estates. He is a member of the American, Connecticut and Greenwich Bar Associations and, from 1981 to 2011, served on the House of Delegates and/or Board of Governors of the Connecticut Bar Association. He was President of the Connecticut Bar Association in 2000 – 2001. In 2005, he was given the John Eldred Shields Distinguished Professional Service Award of the Connecticut Bar Association. In 2002, Mr. Marchand was voted as a member of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (www.actec.org), a national organization of approximately 2,600 lawyers elected to membership by demonstrating the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence and experience as trust and estate counselors. Among his many activities in the community, Mr. Marchand has coached Little League baseball, was a member of the Representative Town Meeting, served as President of the Board of Trustees of both the Convent of the Sacred Heart and The Greenwich Library and is currently a member of the Board of Pathways, Inc.
