| Description | Emily attended Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. Emily was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2015 and began practicing in Fort Wayne. Prior to joining Shilts & Setlak, Emily was an attorney for the Department of Child Services, where she handled cases regarding child abuse and neglect. She now focuses her practice on family law, including dissolution and post-dissolution matters, child support, parenting time, custody, and adoption. Emily believes there are three stages or steps in family law cases. In step one, she will work with you to see if the two parties can come to a mutual agreement. In the event assistance is needed, step two brings a mediator in to help the parties find common ground. Emily advocates for these first two steps, as she believes they give you, the client, the best opportunity for your voice to be heard. Should settlement not be possible, Emily is ready to take your case to step three: court. She will work hard to present the best argument and evidence for your case so that the conclusion is one that brings you satisfaction. Outside of the office, Emily spends her time with her family. Emily was born and raised in Fort Wayne, and much of her extended family still resides here. She knew she wanted to return to her hometown to practice law and give back to the community that has given her so much. You can find her with her husband running after their young son and Lab mix. They are expecting another bundle of joy in May of 2018. |
