DescriptionHeather Jackson has exclusively worked as a Plaintiff’s Personal Injury attorney since being admitted to practice law. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Organizational Management from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs in 2005 before she went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law where she also earned a Certificate in Workplace Law. Before going to law school, Heather spent nearly five years working for one of the nation’s largest auto insurers as a Claims Adjuster where she handled both attorney-represented and non-represented Injury claims. This experience helped her to understand how claims adjusters gather and use information when deciding whether and how much to pay on a claim. Heather’s passion for litigation was ignited when she filed her first lawsuit in a wage and hour complaint in her capacity as student attorney in the civil litigation clinic at DU. While not all cases require litigation to be resolved, Heather understands that sometimes an insurance company or wrongdoer will simply refuse to do the right thing if a lawsuit is not filed. Heather is a graduate of the Rocky Mountain Trial Skills Building Program at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. She completes continuing education courses in litigation topics annually and litigates cases throughout Colorado as necessary to further her clients’ objectives. Heather is admitted to practice law in both the State and Federal Courts in Colorado. Heather is an active member of several local bar and professional associations, including: 1. Inns of Court: The American Inns of Court were founded 35+ years ago and are dedicated to promoting the highest levels of professionalism in the practice of law. Heather is a current member of and has served as Student Liaison and Membership Committee Contributor for the Rhone Brackett Inn of Court in Denver. She is also a current member of the Ben S. Wendelken Inn of Court in Colorado Springs; 2. Colorado Trial Lawyers Association: CTLA was established in 1953 and is the largest specialty bar association in the state. Members of CTLA work every day to increase public safety and protect the right to trial by jury. Heather is a member of both the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and Women’s Trial Lawyers Association; and 3. Regional Bar Associations: Heather is a member of the El Paso County, Colorado Womens Bar, and Colorado State Bar Associations. Heather is an author and researcher who currently serves on the Editorial Committee for Trial Talk, a bi-monthly publication by CTLA. Heather received acknowledgments in numerous scholarly legal articles on Workplace Law issues for extensive research performed while she was Research Assistant to University of Denver Sturm College of Law Professors Rachel Arnow-Richman and Nantiya Ruan. She also maintains a blog on community-relevant legal topics for non-lawyers. Heather has lived in Colorado for nearly 30 years with most of that time based in Colorado Springs. She enjoys cooking, hiking, pop-culture trivia, indie rock, snowboarding, and spending time with her husband, Isaac, and their two young children, a son and a daughter. She volunteers at her time at her son’s elementary school and at local legal clinics. From the Founder, Heather Jackson Colorado Injury Law Center is the culmination of my 15 years of combined industry experience/ legal practice and my passion for helping people. I established Colorado Injury Law Center in 2018 to fill a void in the world of legal representation for injury victims. Between law school internships and post-admission practice, a period spanning 10 years, I worked at five different Plaintiff’s Personal Injury law firms in Colorado ranging in size from 2 attorneys to 30+ attorneys. Too often I found clients frustrated by the claim/ legal system and by inactivity by or lack of access to their attorneys. Before law school, I was an Insurance Adjuster in Colorado Springs for the third-largest auto insurer in the country for 5 years where I handled injury claims, both attorney-represented and non-attorney-represented. I saw the disparate treatment of represented versus unrepresented injury claimants by the Insurance Company. I also saw that Personal Injury Attorneys were not created equal. My experiences taught me about what works and what doesn’t in maximizing claim recovery, in advocacy, and in running a firm. First-hand insurance industry knowledge When you have been injured as the result of the negligence of another, in the vast majority of cases, it is an Insurance Company through an adjuster and chains of management, not the wrong-doer or a jury or a judge, who determines whether and how much to pay on your claim. With 5 years working as an Insurance Injury Claim Adjuster before law school, Heather Jackson’s background gives her perspective about how insurance companies use information about a claim from the moment they first learn about a loss. She understands how claims adjusters gather and use information from at-fault drivers, witnesses, injured parties, police officers. She knows first-hand what a claim file looks like, how it is organized, and what types of information matter to insurance companies when deciding whether and how much to pay on a claim. There is no tenure as a Plaintiff’s Attorney that serves as an adequate substitute for living and working inside the industry. Unless he has spent years working in a Claims Department, another attorney does not truly understand what goes on behind closed doors at an insurance company and therefore, he does not have the same understanding of how information is gathered and assimilated in a claims file to ultimately determine what an insurer will pay for a claim both before and after lawsuit is filed. Our Core Values: Community. This community matters to us because we are part of it. We volunteer in and are active participants of the local community. Courage. Some firms only accept cases that are easy wins. We embrace righteous causes worth fighting for, even if it means more work for us. Collaboration. Our clients are empowered to understand the claims and litigation process so that they are active participants in achieving their desired outcomes. Communication. Clients deserve regular communication, timely responses to inquiries, and direct access to their attorneys when needed.
