| Description | James A. Prather is a partner (director) at Galloway. James earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. After receiving his Juris Doctorate degree in 1990, James began his career in New Orleans practicing property and casualty defense litigation. His practice areas grew to include insurance coverage litigation, construction defect litigation, maritime defense litigation, and defense of the transportation industry. James works with clients to develop policy forms for commercial and property lines for both property and liability policies. He represents insurers in first and third-party insurance disputes concerning commercial and personal lines property claims. James is admitted to practice before all Louisiana trial and appellate courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.James serves as General Counsel for the Louisiana Surplus Lines Association and is a member of the Louisiana Surplus Lines Advisory Council, Legislative Affairs Committee for WSIA (Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association), the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana Claims Association, the Louisiana Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and the American Trucking Association. James is also a former member of the AAMGA Governmental Affairs Committee before its recent merger with NAPSLO. James has devoted his practice to the representation of business and insurance interests in Louisiana. He has been honored by his colleagues in the Bar and members of the Bench with an (AV) rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating available to practicing attorneys.
