She attended law school at the University of Tennessee and fell in love with the mountains of East Tennessee. Karissa loves to spend her free time with her husband, a Kingsport native, and their two dogs. She is an avid chef and enjoys hiking and yoga. Karissa is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Business practice groups. She is well-experienced in complex commercial litigation, both plaintiff and defense. She has jury and bench trial experience and regularly handles general corporate defense and professional liability defense matters. As a former federal law clerk, Karissa is well-versed in drafting pleadings, including motions to dismiss and complex motions for summary judgment. Karissa’s business practice includes the preparation of shareholder agreements and corporate bylaws, and handling business entity formations. She regularly prepares contract mining agreements, coal sales agreements, non-compete agreements, and energy leases.
