Laura offers legal representation in cases that involve child custody disputes, modifications, dissolutions, and contested restraining orders; including Family Abuse Prevention Act Orders, Elderly Person and Person with Disabilities Abuse Prevention Act Orders, and Sexual Abuse Protective Orders. Laura has always been passionate about issues related to sexual assault and domestic violence and is a devoted advocate for families attempting to overcome these matters. She studied law at The University of Oregon, School of Law, where she served as the Director of Women’s Law Forum and Notes & Comments Editor for the Oregon Review of International Law. After graduating from Oregon Law School in 2016, Laura clerked for the Honorable Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai of Lane County Circuit Court. Clerking allowed Laura to see a courtroom firsthand where she sharpened her skills as a legal advocate. Although native to Southern California, Laura moved to Oregon to pursue her law degree and fell in love with the state. In her free time, you can find Laura snuggling with her cat Gretchen, at a spin class, or baking desserts for her friends and family. Volunteer Work Laura actively volunteers at the local level, dedicating her free time to the following organizations: Volunteering with the DV Project through Legal Aid: Here, Laura acts as a pro bono attorney for people who have filed a restraining order that is being fought by the Respondent. These cases can involve any type of protective order (FAPA, EPPDAPA, Stalking), and may be resolved outside of court or go to trial depending on the circumstances. In her role as a pro bono attorney, Laura represents clients from start to finish of the case, during which time she staunchly advocates for their needs and best interests when no one else will. St. Andrews Legal Clinic: Based in Portland, this is a family law-focused clinic for low-income clients. Here, Laura assists prospective clients in understanding the depth and gravity of the legal issues they’re facing and gives them an estimate of how much it would cost to hire the clinic. |
