| Description | Biographical details I grew up in Dallas Center, Iowa, where my father, John C. McDonald, practiced law for over forty years. After working in the field of education and disabilities for a number of years, encouraged by Dell and my father, I enrolled in and graduated from The University College of Law, was licensed to practice in Iowa, and admitted to practice in Iowa’s courts and the United States Federal District Courts in the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa.I regularly represent parents of children with disabilities in regard to special education matters. I also regularly represent clients in other areas of education law, publishing law, contract law, condominium and home owners’ association law, mediation, and civil litigation. My blog, Special Education Law in Iowa, is available at http://specialeducationlawmmr.blogspot.com/ I graduated from Central College in Pella, where I served as student body secretary, and as a student academic advisor. I completed my Master’s degree in Education at The University of Iowa, where for eleven years I served as the coordinator of accommodations and services for university students with learning disabilities and other nonvisible disorders. During that time, among other things, I served as national president of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders), on a committee on ADHD of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, and gave congressional testimony in regard to disability and education issues. I authored articles on students with disabilities that were published in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters on various topics related to disabilities, and postsecondary education, and a book on school-age child care. I also made a number of related presentations at state and national conferences. |
