DescriptionNick Weiss opened his practice after years of practicing civil litigation and representing an international retailer as in-house counsel. A transplant from Maine, he happily calls Cleveland Heights his home, where he represents families, individuals, businesses, and non-profits throughout northeast Ohio. His business focus is in hemp and cbd law in Ohio. Overview of Educational Accomplishments Nick graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and The College of Wooster, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations. As a law student, Nick competed in Case Western Reserve’s Mock Trial competition and won the William E. Davis prize for excellence in trial advocacy. Nick also served as the Senior Editor of Case Western Reserve’s Journal of International Law, which published his note on the prosecution of international war criminals in the United States and Canada in March, 2013. Publications Somebody Else’s Problem: How the United States and Canada Violate International Law and Fail to Ensure the Prosecution of War Criminals. CWRU Journal of International Law, 2012. Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law Presentations Trends in Legal and Finance (Warrensville Heights Chamber of Commerce AM Learning Series, June 2019): Presented at a round table with a group of subject matter experts to discuss and address legal and finance questions. What I Wish I’d Known: Reducing Small Business Legal Vulnerability (Richfield Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, February 2019): Spoke to chamber members and encouraged them to conduct an audit of the most common legal vulnerabilities that can lead to damaging lawsuits and fines. Preparing for the Hurdles of Starting a Cannabis Business (Medical Marijuana Business Seminar, October 2018): Presented for continuing legal education credits in building a strong foundation for a cannabis business, covering Ohio Licensing Requirements, Certifications, Financing and other Banking Concerns, Real Estate / Zoning Concerns, and Other Business Concerns. Boundaries and Easements: Identifying, Classifying and Locating Easement (Half Moon Seminars, July 2018): Provided continuing education to landmen regarding updates in Ohio’s property law regarding easements. Important Trends in 2018 for Legal and Finance (Warrensville Heights Area Chamber of Commerce, April 2018): I participated in a panel of experts to take part in a lively discussion on financial literacy, protecting data and devices from the black market, and the increasing dangers from bad actors among high interest so-called payday lending institutions. The New Altered Reality: Medical Marijuana Opportunities and Insights, (Warrensville Heights Area Chamber of Commerce, March 2018): I, along with a panel of experts, discussed the consequences of legalization of medical marijuana on the business community.
