Richard is a former school and research psychologist. He attended college at Appalachian State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He obtained his M.Ed. in school psychology from the University of North Carolina in 1990. He was licensed by the North Carolina Psychology Board as a Psychological Associate in 1993. In 1999, he received his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of North Carolina, where he was elected to The Order of the Coif. Richard is a member of the American Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association and Greensboro Bar Association.
