Description | Scott began his legal career working at Legal Aid of Nebraska in May 2007. Beginning in October 2008, Scott served as the Client Attorney at the Women’s Center for Advancement in Omaha (formerly the YWCA), where he worked until joining Hightower Reff Law as an Associate Attorney in September 2015. In March 2019, Scott was given the high honor of joining the team as an Associate Attorney at Koenig Dunne, PC, LLO, the premier family law firm in the Omaha metro area. During his time at the Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA), the majority of Scott’s legal work involved family law and immigration issues, with an emphasis on cases involving domestic violence/sexual assault issues. While working as the sole attorney for WCA clients, Scott pioneered a new program to expand the organization’s ability to help domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Beginning in the spring of 2014, he partnered with private attorneys to begin a monthly WCA Legal Clinic to help people representing themselves in family law cases. Scott also led the WCA’s successful effort to become a social services agency recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals. In his current position as an Associate Attorney at Koenig Dunne, Scott’s primary practice area remains family law cases and issues, including being one of few local attorneys to practice Collaborative Divorce as a member of the Nebraska Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Scott is an active member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and the Omaha Bar Association, and an alumni of the NSBA’s Leadership Academy, Alpha Sigma Nu, and New Leaders Council. Scott is also a member of the Academy of Greater Omaha Young Professionals, Center Sphere (Chapter President), Downtown Omaha Inc., Robert M. Spire Inns of Court, and Nebraska Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Scott recently completed a 2-year term as Chair of the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Subcommittee on Limited Scope Representation, and remains on as Vice-Chair of the subcommittee. Scott also recently became a member of the Self-Represented Litigation Committee of the Nebraska Supreme Court. Scott continues to give presentations to the Bar and general public alike on the benefits of limited scope representation, and the needs and concerns of self-represented litigants. In 2018, Scott was honored to be the recipient of the Omaha Bar Association’s Champions of Law Award for his contributions in Education. In April 2019, Scott had the honor of appearing before and presenting his first oral argument to the Nebraska Supreme Court. In the near future, Scott’s work on the Nebraska Limited Scope Representation Toolkit will be showcased when it appears on the Nebraska Supreme Court’s website for pro se litigants. Currently, you can find Scott’s work entitled ‘The Do’s and Don’ts of Limited Scope Representation’ in the Nebraska State Bar Association’s 2019 Family Law Manual. In July 2019, Scott was informed by the Greater Omaha Chamber of his selection to Leadership Omaha Class 42, which is designed to develop effective leaders who will strengthen and transform their community. |
