DescriptionSteve Morris has extensive experience in commercial contract and tort litigation, including real estate and securities based financing, corporate restructuring, class and derivative actions involving the issuance, sale, and value of securities under Nevada and federal statutes; insurance coverage; construction performance and defect; public utility rate making; antitrust; trademark disputes; defamation, SLAPP, and First Amendment litigation; and all manner of disputes subject to arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act or the Uniform Arbitration Act. He has been named one of ‘The Best Lawyers in America’ for more than 25 years by Best Lawyers and is currently listed as a Best Lawyer in Commercial, Construction, Intellectual Property, and Real Estate Litigation. Best Lawyers named him Las Vegas’ ‘2014 Lawyer of the Year’ for Intellectual Property and Real Estate Litigation, ‘2012 Lawyer of the Year’ for Construction Litigation and ‘2011 Lawyer of the Year’ in ‘Bet-the-Company Litigation.’ Mr. Morris has also received the highest ranking available by Chambers USA. He has been recognized as one of Nevada’s Litigation Stars by Benchmark Litigation. Mr. Morris was voted one of the 2013 Top 10 Super Lawyers in Nevada. Mr. Morris represented MGM Grand in multi-district litigation (MDL 453) against the resort following the 1980 fire, and in the successful business interruption/property damage insurance coverage litigation that followed. He also successfully represented Hilton Hotels Corp. following the fire that closed the Las Vegas Hilton in 1981 to obtain insurance coverage and settlement of the case under the policy. In the 1990s he represented American Pacific Corporation in its successful jury defense of a federal securities class action; Seeno Construction Company against a subcontractor whose negligence caused a multi-million dollar loss to the company; and Microsoft in its successful defense of a state-law based antitrust suit. Throughout the years, Mr. Morris has also successfully represented pharmaceutical companies and automobile and aircraft manufacturers in product disputes; hospitals in acquisition/disposition actions; MGM Resorts International and its affiliates in a variety of commercial disputes, including extensive litigation arising post-2010 out of construction problems at MGM’s CityCenter ; Harrah’s Entertainment in artist performance contract disputes; Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Co. (now NV Energy) in administrative rate challenges and in contract and tort lawsuits; Southwest Gas Co. in a failed merger dispute; Barrick Gold in mining disputes, and developers contesting fraudulent mining claims; and others in all manner of litigated disputes, particularly before juries.
