| Description | Steven Hurbis graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois College of Law after graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in political science.While an undergraduate, Steven was president of the Eastern Michigan Mock Trial Association where he competed in Trial Advocacy competitions for three years and distinguished himself as an eight-time Outstanding Attorney award winner and with the honor of All-Regional Attorney.In law school Steven competed in both Trial Advocacy and Moot Court competitions. His first year, he won the Trial Advocacy competition and placed fourth in the Moot Court competition. As a member of the University of Illinois College of Law’s Trial Team, Steven was twice recognized as the Best Overall Advocate. In his third year, his trial team won its region and placed fifth in the nation at the American Association for Justice’s National Trial Team Competition.Also while in law school, Steven represented clients in the College of Law’s Civil Litigation and Community Preservation Clinics, the latter of which he represented clients in danger of losing their homes and successfully won a motion resulting in the largest sanctions awarded in the clinic’s history.Steven was honored with the University of Illinois College of Law’s prestigious Dr. Paul M. Lisneck Excellence in Trial Advocacy and Ethics Award and the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy. Steven is also the winner of the Richard Ferens Scholarship for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.Since joining McKeen and Associates in 2016 Steven has gone on to secure a number of high verdicts and settlements. In October of 2017, as first chair, he won a $1,250,000 dollar verdict on behalf of his client in a medical malpractice case in Oakland County (Smith v. Tuma, MD). The following year, as second chair, he was instrumental in obtaining a $130,000,000 dollar verdict in Oakland County (Tran v. William Beaumont Hospital). In under 3 years, Steven has obtained over 16 million dollars in settlements for McKeen & Associates clients. Steven is an active member of the Michigan Association for Justice, American Association for Justice, Michigan State Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association. In his free time Steven enjoys golfing, running, and reading. |
