| Description | Steven R. Griffin is a partner in Beggs & Lane’s Energy and Public Utilities group. Since joining the firm in 2003, Mr. Griffin has focused his practice on a combination of commercial litigation and corporate/transactional work with particular emphasis on matters relating to energy and public utility law. Mr. Griffin has been awarded a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent peer review rating for the highest level of professional excellence. In recent years, Mr. Griffin has served in leadership roles on a wide array of renewable energy initiatives, including three large solar facilities on Department of Defense installations totaling 120 megawatts in capacity, two wind projects totaling 298 megawatts in capacity, landfill gas-to-energy projects totaling 3 megawatts, a reclaimed water project enabling the recycling and beneficial reuse of hundreds of millions of gallons of municipal wastewater, and a variety of other matters involving utility-scale battery energy storage systems, solar leasing, industrial combined heat and power, and federal contracting involving energy conservation and renewable energy initiatives supported by the Department of Defense. Many of these initiatives have captured public attention due to their innovative nature, including the solar initiatives which, at the time, were the largest solar installations east of the Mississippi River and the wind projects which received the 2015 Deal of the Year Award from Commodity Business Awards, 2015 Deal of the Year Award from Platts Global Energy, and 2016 Deal of the Year Award from Risk.net. In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015, Mr. Griffin was recognized as a Rising Star for his efforts in the Energy and Natural Resources sector by Florida Super Lawyers magazine, a designation awarded to no more than 2.5% of the lawyers statewide. Mr. Griffin has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 editions of The Best Lawyers in America guide, for his practice in the areas of Energy Law and Energy Regulatory Law. In addition to possessing substantial expertise in the renewable energy and federal contracting sectors, Mr. Griffin regularly represents clients before the Florida Public Service Commission, the agency responsible for regulating electric, water and wastewater utilities across the state of Florida. His experience includes utility revenue requirement proceedings, utility territorial disputes, energy efficiency proceedings, including proceedings under the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, and administrative rule-making proceedings. |
