| Description | Claire McDowell joined Family Legal Advocacy Group (FLAG) as an Associate Attorney in September 2019. Prior to joining FLAG, Claire served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Mary M. Kramer at the Circuit Court for Howard County from August 2018 August 2019. Claire was admitted to the Maryland Bar in December 2018.Claire grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland and attended Maryvale Preparatory School. Claire received her Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park in May 2015 and subsequently attended the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor degree in May 2018. During law school, Claire was a Rose Zetzer Woman, Leadership and Equality Fellow and served as the Executive Notes and Comments Editor of the University of Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class. Claire’s relevant coursework included Family Law, Negotiation, Marital Property and Divorce Litigation, Estates & Trusts, and Gender and the Law. While in law school, Claire worked as a student attorney in the Civil Rights for Persons With Disabilities Clinic, where she worked with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) on issues affecting adults and children with disabilities and their access to K-12 and secondary education, employment, and other public services and accommodations. Claire also worked as a law clerk at FLAG during law school, where she discovered her passion for family law and advocating for individuals and children in their time of need. Claire’s other areas of interest include guardianship and education matters. Claire lives in Baltimore City and in her spare time enjoys reading, snowboarding, running, and spending time at Deep Creek Lake. |
