| Description | Angela Hawekotte. Angela received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1975 from Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles (now known as Mount Saint Mary’s University) and her Juris Doctor degree from the Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1979. After graduation from law school, she received a Rotary International Graduate Fellowship, and spent the academic year 1979-80 at the University College of Wales, U.K. (now known as Aberystwyth University) where Angela earned a Diploma in International Law & Relations, specializing in the European Economic Community (now known as the European Union). The following year Angela was a speech writer and research assistant for two Members of Parliament in the House of Commons in London. Angela concentrates her practice on estate planning (including probate, conservatorships and guardianships), general business, tax and corporate law in Pasadena. In addition to assisting many individual clients in the areas of estate planning, trust and probate law, many of Angela’s clients also include start-up corporations and small businesses. She has vast experience representing taxpayers before the US Tax Court, the Internal Revenue Service, the Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization and various other government agencies. Previously Angela was associated with the Los Angeles office of the New York-based law firm of Whitman & Ransom (now known as Holland & Knight, LLP) in Los Angeles. At Whitman & Ransom, she concentrated her practice in the areas of tax and corporate law, estate planning and municipal finance transactions. Most recently, Angela was a partner with Roger Adams (retired December 2016) and Boyd D. Hudson (deceased November 2019) in the firm of Adams, Hawekotte & Hudson. Angela is also a certified public accountant (inactive license). She spent 5-1/2 years at Arthur Andersen & Co. (Los Angeles) in the Tax Division from Fall of 1981 to Summer of 1987. At Arthur Andersen, in addition to performing tax compliance and research functions in the areas of individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary and estate taxation, Angela also assisted in training Firm professional personnel and was responsible for authoring certain Firm tax training materials, as well as Firm publications on expatriate taxation. Angela is rated AV Pre-Eminent (5.0 out of 5.0) by Martindale-Hubbell (and has been selected to the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers in the United States). She has been profiled in a publication entitled Beyond L.A. Law: Break the Traditional Lawyer Mold (Harcourt, Brace, 1998) which features 46 lawyers in the United States with interesting law practices and backgrounds. Angela is a member of the California State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County and Pasadena Bar Associations (she is a Past President – only the third woman president in its 80+ year history), the Irish American Bar Association, the Pasadena Rotary Club, the Pasadena Police Foundation Board (President, 2007-2009), the Pasadena Rotary Club (member of Foundation Board, 2003-2010), and the Pasadena Senior Center. She is a member of the Governing Board of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and is a volunteer of various other local community groups. She is admitted to practice in state and federal court as well as the U.S. Tax Court. She has been chosen to Southern California Super Lawyers in 2012 through 2020 in the areas of Estate Planning and Probate, and was also named a Top Lawyer by her peers in Pasadena Magazine’s November issues in the categories of Probate, Trusts, Estates and Estate Planning (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, 2019) and Taxation (2010 and 2011).
