| Description | Mr. Balaguera was born in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Palm Beach County, Florida to be closer to his family. From the beginning of his collegiate career, Mr. Balaguera had the passion to become a criminal defense lawyer. Mr. Balaguera attended Florida Atlantic University and earned an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University, Mr. Balaguera attended and graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Law. While attending Nova Southeastern University School of Law, Mr. Balaguera received the highest grade in his class in the courses of Criminal Pre-trial Practice and Trial Advocacy. Mr. Balaguera knew his path to becoming a criminal defense trial lawyer required lots of hard work and preparation. While in law school, Mr. Balaguera was a member of various trial teams and student organizations. More specifically, Mr. Balaguera was a member of the National Texas Young Lawyers Association Trial Team, the National Association of Trial Lawyers of America Trial Team, and the Chester Bidell Trial team. Additionally, Mr. Balaguera was a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America organization and served as the organization’s ‘Public Relations Coordinator.’ After Mr. Balaguera’s admission to the Florida Bar, Mr. Balaguera began his career as a criminal defense attorney and went to work for the Palm Beach County Office of the Public Defender. While employed as an Assistant Public Defender, Mr. Balaguera represented clients in the Felony Division, the Appellate Division, the Domestic Violence Division, the County Court Division, and the Juvenile Division. During his tenure with the Office of the Public Defender, Mr. Balaguera zealously represented thousands of clients facing charges ranging from non-violent misdemeanor offenses to violent felony offenses punishable by life imprisonment. Mr. Balaguera has also handled cases dealing with violations of probation and cases with enhanced sentencing penalties such as Prison Release Reoffenders (PRR), Habitual Violent Felony Offenders (HVFO), Habitual Felony Offenders (HFO), and Violent Career Criminals (VCC). Additionally, Mr. Balaguera attended the State of Florida’s Defender College and received the ‘Best Advocate Award’ in August of 2007. After leaving the Palm Beach County Office of the Public Defender, Mr. Balaguera went to work for Entin and Della Fera, P.A., a prestigious South Florida criminal defense law firm. Here, Mr. Balaguera represented clients all throughout the state of Florida in both State and Federal Court. Throughout his career as a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Balaguera has gained extensive trial experience and has written and argued a multitude of pre-trial and post-trial motions based on the exclusion of prejudicial evidence and the violation of his client’s constitutional rights. After handling thousands of cases throughout the State of Florida and in Federal Court, Mr. Balaguera developed a reputation as an aggressive, hard working, well prepared, and motivated criminal defense attorney who cares about his client’s constitutional rights. |
