| Description | Mr. Dorsey uses his combined litigation and business acumen to balance the client’s overall business interests with the client’s objectives in resolving complex business and commercial disputes. Mr. Dorsey concentrates his practice on complex business and commercial litigation, together with litigation affecting the rights and liberties of individuals. Mr. Dorsey is an experienced litigator for individuals and businesses alike, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters. Mr. Dorsey has nearly 15 years of experience in litigation. His experience includes complex civil litigation, business and corporate litigation, employment litigation fiduciary litigation, tort litigation, and real estate litigation. The majority of his cases are litigated in the Circuit Courts for Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Howard County, Montgomery County, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He has submitted brief and argument before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals on various issues, one such experience resulted in the published opinion of Dang H. Vu, et al v. Allied Foot & Ankle, P.C., 180 Md. App. 663, 952 A 2d 379 (2008). He has also litigated in the Court of Common Pleas of York County, Pennsylvania (admitted Pro Hac Vice). Mr. Dorsey also advises clients in business matters, including business formations and management issues, acquisitions, intellectual property, corporate governance, and daily operational concerns. In this capacity, Mr. Dorsey gains direct insight into the business concerns of the client, which proves invaluable to stave off or deal with litigation. In 1998, Mr. Dorsey was appointed by then Maryland Governor Parris N. Glendenning to the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Committee, 8th Judicial District, and reappointed to the Committee by Maryland Governors Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. and Martin J. O’Malley, last serving as Chair of the Committee. In 2005, the Circuit Court for Carroll County, Maryland appointed Mr. Dorsey to the County paid position of a Settlement Officer. In that capacity, Mr. Dorsey is assigned to oversee mandatory pre-trial settlement conferences in the civil litigation areas of Business and Contracts, Motor Vehicle Negligence, and Product/General Liability Negligence. Prior to joining Thomas & Libowitz, P.A., Mr. Dorsey founded and managed the law firm Dorsey & Associates, P.C. He also owned and operated a title company, Maryland Title Group, Inc. Mr. Dorsey gained valuable business experience while working in various positions of responsibility at General Electric Information Services, CDA Investment Technologies, and CyberAge Technologies. Mr. Dorsey designed and developed the customized computer software used by the law firm of Feinberg Rozen, LLP in its representation of a Fortune 500 manufacturer of breast implants in mass tort litigation. Significant Matters Represented a printing and design company in a multi-million dollar breach of contract action against a Fortune 1000 company which spanned across multiple jurisdictions including Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Tennessee. Represented a restaurant services company in a federal declaratory judgment action arising from an underlying class action lawsuit alleging violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (‘FACTA’), 15 U S C 1681 et seq. Represented an environmental company in a business tort action (defamation, tortuous interference with contractual relations) against a former employee and completing business enterprise. Represented a podiatric medical practice group in a breach of contract and business tort action against a former physician employee and competing business enterprise. Represented gas station operators against claims of environmental contamination lodged by neighboring property owners and the Maryland Department of the Environment. Served as counsel to the co-trustee of the Remediation Trust Fund established to remediate and monitor the alleged contamination. Represented business enterprise against claims arising out of the transfer, ownership, and operation of pizza business wherein the plaintiff asserted, among other things, breach of contract and ownership of defendants’ trademark. Represented principals of a telecommunications company against claims arising out of the transfer, ownership, and operation of the telecommunications company wherein the plaintiff requested, among other things, declaratory and injunctive relief related to use of the company’s tradename. Represented shareholder and construction company against claims alleging breach of fiduciary duties and requesting the appointment of a custodian and dissolution of the company. Represented real estate developers in a multi-million dollar breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty action arising out of a failed business partnership. Represented former Police Officer on his appeal of a trial court ruling affecting his claims of unlawful and discriminatory treatment of him as an employee of a Police Department. Other Activities Mr. Dorsey is active in the community and is a former member of Community Foundation of Carroll County Board of Directors and the Carroll County Youth Services Bureau Board of Directors. |
