| Description | Makia Weaver practices law in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She graduated from American University, Washington College of Law (WCL) in 2016. She is passionate about family law practice. Prior to joining KSFM, she served as a public defender in Maryland for three years. From that position, Makia has acquired valuable skills in client-centered advocacy, case negotiations, and conflict resolution. Makia also previously served as a Judicial Law Clerk to Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Throughout her legal career, Makia has developed excellent legal research and writing skills, and has significant litigation experience. During law school, Makia served as a volunteer in the Family Court Self-Help Center at the D.C. Superior Court for two years. She also has prior internship experience at the D.C. Superior Court, the Public Defender Service for D.C., and at private law firm, Harden & Pinckney, PLLC. Makia has achieved many honors during her legal career. In 2018, she received the Client-Centered Award for her work as a public defender. In 2016, she served as Master of Ceremony for the Children’s Law Center’s Annual Benefit. In addition, in 2016, Makia was the recipient of the Professor Taslitz Criminal Justice Award and the Rising Star Award at WCL. In her spare time, Makia prioritizes mentorship and community service.
