| Description | Stephen Rickershauser, an associate of the firm, received his B.A. from Florida International University, where he majored in Business Marketing, and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. While attending Brooklyn Law School, where he was a Dean’s Merit Scholar, Mr. Rickershauser served as Associate Managing Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law and earned a certificate in Intellectual Property, Media and Information Law. Mr. Rickershauser is a skilled and strategic negotiator and litigator, with extensive litigation and trial experience in New York’s Supreme Courts and Federal District Courts. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rickershauser served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the New York City Law Department for over three years. While in the Labor and Employment Law Division, Mr. Rickershauser counseled and defended the City of New York, as well as its agencies and employees, in federal and state employment litigation matters where he regularly engaged in oral arguments, hearings, discovery conferences, motion practice, depositions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. He successfully defended multimillion dollar cases for the city. He was also a key member of the defense team representing the Board of Education in a billion dollar class action with over 4,500 claimants seeking damages under Title VII disparate impact. Prior to joining the Labor and Employment Law Division, Mr. Rickershauser spent over two years litigating in the Manhattan Tort Division of the Law Department, where he managed pre-trial discovery for a caseload of over 100 actions, including high-risk matters. Mr. Rickershauser obtained numerous favorable decisions for the City, as well as its agencies and employees, through affirmative motion practice, settlement negotiations, stipulations of discontinuance and jury verdicts. He also served as lead counsel and second-chair in a number of trials, including serving as second-chair on the defense team of a 60 million dollar Board of Education negligence trial. Prior to joining the New York City Law Department, Mr. Rickershauser was an associate at a preeminent commercial defense firm on Long Island, where he handled complex civil litigation and appeals for insurance companies, individuals, businesses and municipalities throughout the state of New York. Mr. Rickershauser is a member of the New York State Bar Association. As part of his extensive litigation training, Mr. Rickershauser also participated in a 2-week trial program with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Training. He is admitted to practice in New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. |
