DescriptionTeresa Pike Tomlinson is a Partner in our Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia offices, where she specializes in complex litigation, crisis management and strategic solutions for Hall Booth Smith clients.Teresa competed in the 2020 Democratic Primary to be the nominee that would face incumbent Republican Senator David Perdue. Though she finished second in a seven candidate field to nominee Jon Ossoff, she raised nearly $3 million and was endorsed by over 100 respected Democratic leaders and organizations.Teresa joined the firm in 2019 after serving two terms as mayor of Columbus, Georgia where she was sworn into office in January 2011 as the city’s 69th, and first female, mayor. During her tenure as Mayor and Public Safety Director of the Columbus Consolidated Government, Teresa oversaw nearly 3,000 employees and a $275 million budget. She holds a National Security Secret Clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense due to her role as head of Homeland Security for Columbus and the southwest region of Georgia, and due to her work and coordination with the Ft. Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence. Teresa has six-times been named as one of Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians.Before her service as Mayor, Teresa practiced law for 16 years with the law firm of Pope McGlamry, where she specialized in complex litigation and rose to become an equity partner – the firm’s first female partner. In one of her notable cases, she led a trial team to a $21.5 million award in her client’s favor in a contract dispute between a publicly traded company and its former CEO. Other cases of interest include: AFC Enterprises, Inc. Securities/Derivative Litigation (Led litigation team in accounting malpractice claim against Arthur Anderson, while coordinating parallel securities and derivative litigation against publicly-traded company arising from restated Financial Statements); Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) Litigation (Led litigation team in several nationwide class actions for alleged violations of statutory law against the country’s largest mortgage lenders, while coordinating a total of 15 such actions, including Multi-District Litigation Panel treatment of cases); 1996 ValuJet Air Crash Cases (Led litigation team effort to escape prolonged Multi-District Litigation treatment and to prosecute claims of multiple surviving families resulting in early, significant resolution); Bush Ranch, et al, v. E. I. DuPont de Nemours (Assisted in discovery and trial efforts of alleged fungicide contamination for multiple commercial farming clients in coordinated nationwide cases).Teresa earned a Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in government, economics and business management from Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She served as Chair of the Board of Directors for Sweet Briar College, and in 2015 she led an initiative to raise $28.5 million in four months to avert a planned closure of her alma mater and put the college back on solid financial footing.She is a member of the Georgia Bar and has been admitted to practice before federal and state courts across the country, including the United States Supreme Court, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court among others.EXPERIENCETeresa is an experienced litigator and strategic thinker who has decades of leadership experience in municipal governance, complex legal matters and crisis management.
